The 49th Annual IMTA Conference was held on Australia’s
Gold Coast from 8–12 October 2007 and was sponsored by a range of Australian
Defence agencies. The venue was the Legends Hotel in Surfers Paradise.
This year’s theme was ‘Applying the Science’. Over 190 participants from 22
nations enjoyed the very full program with four parallel streams across the
three conference days including keynotes, symposia, paper presentations and
posters. A number of commercial and not for profit organizations sponsored
the conference and presented their products during the tea breaks.
Lt-Col Gunawan and Lt-Col Hidayat represented the Psychological Service of
the Indonesian Army that applied for IMTA membership. After having appreciated
their presentation of the Service, the Steering Committee unanimously
accepted the Psychological Service of the Indonesian Army as new IMTA
member organization.
The Harry H. Greer award was awarded to Col (ret.) Ian Johnston who has
been very actively involved with the Association for many years and who
initiated the IBTA as effective means to promote international networking
during the conference.
The conference also included warm social events: a ‘Meet and Greet’ at the
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, pure fun beach games, the IBTA and
BBQ, the traditional Banquet and a choice of tours closing the conference
on Friday October 12th.
Col Peter Murphy, Director of the Defence Force Psychology Organisation
and his excellent team did a wonderful job to make the 49th IMTA conference
both a professionally rewarding and personally enjoyable experience.
Thanks Mates Down Under!
